Stage 5 - ATPL Theoretical Knowledge Training - 178 Days (Duration)

  • JAA ATPL Ground School Course - Completed by Guided Distance Learning and Exam Brush Up.

There are three parts to the ATPL Theoretical Knowledge Training - the part you start on will depend on which part is currently being taught by guided distance learning.

Guided Distance Learning is a combination of 'self study' and 'instruction'. You will spend roughly 17-20 half days during each part with an instructor in a classroom environment. Outside of the classroom, you are required to study either on your own using the CATS Online system or by reading through the printed books if you have opted to purchase them. At the end of each part there is a brush up course which is required to be completed prior to being authorized to take the ATPL Exams you have been working on - This brush up course is roughly five (5) half days which covers all of the studied material.


Stage 6 - Hour Building (practice flying) - completed during Stage 5

  • 97.5 Hours of Aircraft Rental for Solo Flying

***NOTE: You should complete all required Cross Country, Landing, IR, etc flight requirements prior to starting Stage 7. Consult with your instructor to match your specific requirement.

Stage 7 - JAA CPL Multi Engine Piston Training - 21 Days (Duration)

  • 10 Hours Aircraft Rental with Dual Flight Instruction in a Complex Aircraft
  • 8 Hours Aircraft Rental with Dual Flight Instruction in a Multi Engine Aircraft
  • 12 Hours Ground school in a classroom environment

Stage 8 part 1 - JAA Instrument Rating Multi Engine Training - 7 Days (Duration)

  • 11 hours Aircraft Rental with Dual Flight Instruction
  • 5 hours of ground school

Stage 8 part 2 - JAA Instrument Rating Multi Engine Training - 14 Days (Duration)

  • 5 Hours FNPT 1 Simulator with Dual Instruction
  • 5 Hours Beech BE 76 Duchess Aircraft Rental with Dual Instruction
  • 8 Hours of ground school


Cumulative Flying Hours upon Completion: Total 204, Dual: 79, PIC: 112.5, Simulator: 19
